In 1735, the Swiss botanist Carl Linnaeus set down a structure for assigning botanical names for plants that grow. By using his system botanists were able to set trees, bushes, flowers and grasses in their correct place within the plant kingdom. This process of classification became known as “taxonomy”. But of course it was written in Latin and it was complicated. So, even if you were well trained and experienced, plant taxonomy could be taxing!
